Let's Get Your Baby or Toddler Sleeping!

When babies and toddlers sleep, parents sleep! At BabyCuddle Care, we support families in achieving better sleep in a few ways.

Sleep Learning - Birth to 4 or 5 Months

Also known as sleep shaping or establishing healthy sleep fundamentals, is a way to help support a baby in gradually building solid sleep habits. This is acheived over a period of many months. When done well, your baby will gradually develop the ability to:

  • Sleep longer stretches at night.

  • Connect their nap cycles during the day.

  • Fall asleep more independently in the desired sleep space.

This is a natural biological process that is very holistic in nature. Sleep is able to develop well in this way because the baby's needs are fully met and the environment in which the parents want the baby to sleep is consistent. If started at an early age, babies will not develop the habit of being constantly held, rocked, bounced, or relying on props such as pacifiers, swings, or bouncers.

At BabyCuddle Care we firmly believe there is no such thing as "spoiling" a baby! During the sleep learning process, parents will be encouraged to respond to their baby in an appropriate manner at all times.

Our consultation packages are perfect for families who want to develop healthy sleep habits from birth.

Sleep Training - 5 Months to 4 Years

Sleep Training is generally referred to when more formal sleep work is requested. This sleep work typically occurs over a set period of time with a specific outcome that is sought. Often, parents would like their baby or toddler to:

  • Sleep independently in his/her own sleep space (crib or bed).

  • Fall asleep independently without the need for extended periods of holding, bouncing or other assistance.

  • Have the ability to sync nap cycles on their own.

  • Have no night feedings.

  • Sleep through the night.

  • Return to sleep unassisted if there are naturally occuring or habitual wake-ups (non-hunger related).

It is important to understand that the work done during sleep training is not comprehensive. This means that not all parents have the same sleep goals. Some parents seeking sleep training support may or may not want to hold back a feed or two during the night. They may also simply want more independent sleep, or want their baby to be able to fall asleep without being held for long periods of time.

At BabyCuddle Care, we offer more formal sleep work for families, usually starting at 5 months of age. We offer formal sleep training support on a case-by-case basis after a thorough review of your family's goals and your child's individual difficulties. This is to ensure that you and your child are ready to begin the process.

Importance of Sleep

Most people experience sleep deprivation at some point. Occasionally, we can recover just fine. However, repeated and persistent sleep deprivation is unhealthy and has been linked to hundreds of health conditions.

In summary, sleep is a universal human need. It’s when our bodies repair themselves and when we rest and recover each day. It’s essential for health and well-being. Without sleep, we can’t live long, healthy lives.

If you’re experiencing any of the following, we can help you find a solution!

  • Do you spend 30 minutes or more trying to get your baby to sleep, only to wake up immediately when you put him/her in his/her crib?

  • Does your baby only fall asleep when you’re in bed with him/her, on your chest, or in a bassinet?

  • Is your baby sleeping less than 2-3 hours at a time at night?

  • Does your baby have "colic" or "witching hour"?

  • Is your baby fussy most of the time?

  • Is your baby alert or wants to play at night?

  • Does your baby go to bed after 7:30 pm every night?

  • Did your baby sleep well in the first few weeks of life? Is he fussy all the time and sleeping very little now?

  • Does your baby rely on a sleep prop to fall asleep?

  • Does your baby need to feed multiple times during the night (feeling too much)?

  • Are you tired?

Trust us, chronic sleep deprivation is a serious problem that poses many potential risks to parents and children. Please don't feel like you have to "tough it out," "put up with it," reach your limit, or fall into a state of despair. It's healthier and safer to intervene early.

Your situation may change. Your baby can get a good night's sleep every night, and so can you!
